Southern Idaho Wedding Photographer

My name is Erik Hill of Erik J. Hill Photography. I shot my first wedding in August of 2015. I had been shooting portraits for a couple years before then. So I don't know how I convinced someone to let me be in charge of something so important, but it worked out and they got some good(?) portraits at a great deal. That first wedding was when I realized just how much I really loved photography, and how much I wanted to keep shooting weddings. Fast forward to now. I've worked hard and been able to establish myself as a Southern Idaho Wedding Photographer.

In Southern Idaho just above Utah, there is a little known National Park called City of Rocks National Reserve. I took my family to visit there last fall and became obsessed with all the amazing rock formations. I kept imagining an epic portrait session with every new vista I saw. I knew I had to bring a couple there and make some beautiful images. Early February 2018 I finally got the chance with Andrea and David.

I pitched them the idea by asking if they considered themselves an adventurous couple. Andrea said that was a perfect description, so we planned the shoot. We had been experiencing a mild winter so far, but the morning of the session it began to snow. We decided that we would meet at the location despite the freezing weather, and I am so glad we did.

I've never been able to stick to just one portrait style. I really like the traditional posed portraits. They are great for wedding invitations and they usually end up being the images you print out and hang on your wall. At the same time, I really enjoy lifestyle portraiture. It allows you to share your personality and share a glimpse of your love story. So rather than sticking with just one portrait style, I include both in my sessions.

City of Rocks National Reserve is such an amazing place. All of the different rock formations are incredible. One of my favorite things to do with my engagement and wedding work is to put "Pretty people in pretty places." It all came together for this session. There were so many options for great portrait locations on the reserve, it made my job easy. Andrea and David are obviously in love, it was fun getting to document something as momentous as their engagement.

Despite the freezing temperatures we managed to get some of the best engagement portraits I've ever taken. Getting to work with couples like Andrea and David is one of the many perks of being a Southern Idaho Wedding Photographer.

I don't have a verbose, and grandiose philosophy about wedding photography like "capturing a moment in time" or anything like that. I wouldn't describe what I do as "whimsical". I prefer real, grounded, the salt of the earth kind of people. People that want to record and celebrate an important moment in their life. People who want to document their love story, to share with the world, and to cherish it together. If you feel the same way about things, we should probably chat about your wedding soon.

Thank you to all my past, current and future clients for working with Erik J. Hill Photography. Helping you document the happiest days of your lives is a joy to me. Thanks for reading!
